Crime & Case Log #42: 11/18 - 11/20/08
This information is provided so you can have a timely snapshot of significant events within the city of Sacramento. It is our intention to list suspect apprehensions and crimes of interest (ie, robberies, assaults, burglaries, and homicides), traffic enforcement efforts, and conditions caused by natural events (flooding, road closures, etc.)
Check back frequently and feel free to share this information with your neighbors and community groups. The crimes reported here are preliminary investigations, taken in the field by patrol officers, and may or may not be assigned to a detective for further investigation.

Grreenhaven
November 18, 2008, 4:15 p.m., 1331 Florin Road (Washington Mutual Bank): Bank Robbery
Police received a robbery call the Washington Mutual. An investigation led detectives to an apartment at 6200 Greenhaven. Officers searched the apartment, located a stolen gun and arrested Alonzo Mondragon on probable cause for the robbery and stolen gun.
November 18, 2008, 2:51 a.m., Florin/Luther: Injury Vehicle Accident
Officers responded to the above intersection regarding an injury accident. Officers located a single vehicle accident where the vehicle had stuck a light pole. There were four occupants in the vehicle including 1-year-old. The child was not in a car seat. All of the occupants received minor-moderate injuries. The driver, Manuel Leon, 19, was found to by DUI. He was arrested for felony DUI.
College Glen
November 18, 2008, Swing Shift, 160 Felicia Way: Arrest
Officers pursued a motorist after the driver was seen talking on the cell phone while driving. The driver was taken into custody after officers discovered that he was a parolee-at-large (PAL).
East Area
November 19, 2008, Late Watch: Traffic Stop/Arrest
East area late shift units received a call regarding suspect, Roland Hawkins, who had just threatened the victim. The complainant advised that the suspect was driving away in his black SUV and that he was armed with a handgun. Officers located the SUV in the area of Fruitridge/Stockton Boulevard. The license plate registration matched Hawkins. Officers followed the SUV and pulled it over on 66th Street, south of Fruitridge. Once Hawkins was detained, a handgun was discovered and recovered. Hawkins had a female passenger who was on probation for drugs. Hawkins was arrested and taken to the county jail.
November 20, 2008, 8:38 p.m., 8387 Folsom Boulevard: Robbery
Employees of the 99 Cent store called to inform us of a robbery. Patrol units responded quickly, but the suspect was gone. The suspect was described as a black male adult in his 40’s wearing a blue jacket and jeans. He was scruffy looking and had a black beanie on his head. The suspect displayed a note and demanded money. The suspect showed the victim a black semi-automatic pistol. The suspect then left with money and got into a 90s light blue Honda type vehicle.
November 20, 2008, Swing Shift: Shooting
A 15-year-old victim was walking on 35th Avenue toward a friend’s house. He then heard a pop, and felt a burning in his leg. He then realized that he had been shot. He thought he saw a dark colored sedan prior to the shooting but couldn’t say for sure. The victim sustained a non-life threatening injury to his right leg. The victim couldn’t provide police with any suspect information.
November 20, 2008, Lawrence Park, 9:40 p.m.: Robbery
A teenage victim was walking through Lawrence Park with his girlfriend when he was jumped by 6 Hispanic male juveniles. The victim’s leg was possibly broken. The victim’s purse was taken during the beating.
November 20, 2008, Night Shift, Martin Luther King Boulevard/21st Avenue: Vehicle Accident
Officers responded to the above area regarding a vehicle accident. The officers followed the fluid trail from the suspect vehicle to 23rd Avenue. They located the suspect and vehicle. The suspect was arrested and found to be over a .20 BAC.
Freeport Manor
November 19, 2008, 1:53 p.m., 4701 Freeport Boulevard (Washington Mutual Bank): Arrest
A subject, described as a black male 46-year-old, went into the Washington Mutual Bank earlier in the day and withdrew some cash. The same subject returned in the afternoon and tried to cash a fake check to deposit and then cash out the account. The bank teller called police as the subjects identification appeared to be fictitious along with the check. Upon further checking, the suspect had a bank account with Wamu, but determined to be opened under fraudulent circumstances. Detectives with financial crimes were contacted. The case is still under investigation.
South Area
November 20, 2008, 8:00 a.m., Florin/Tamoshanter: Vehicle Accident
An 80-year-old Hispanic female was driving on Tamoshanter when she apparently had a heart attack and collided with a parked car. Several units responded along with the Fire Department and medics. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
November 20, 2008, 4:07p.m.-12:30 a.m.,6730 Hogan Drive: Assault with a deadly weapon/SWAT call out
Officers responded to 6730 Hogan for a report of a suspect, Steven Jones, 39, chasing his brother with an axe. Upon arrival officers determined that Jones had not hit his brother with the axe, but swung it at him. Jones was gone upon officer’s arrival. Police set up a perimeter and established contact with Jones, who barricaded himself in his residence with his father. Neither party would comply with orders and requests to come out of the house. SWAT and hostage negotiators responded and ultimately talked Jones into coming out of the house peacefully. The axe was located. No one was injured.
Natomas
November 20, 2008, 4:10 p.m., Natomas area: Craig’s List Robbery
The victim posted his vehicle for sale on Craig’s List. He met the suspect at 1990 San Juan. Two black male adults approximately 22-years-old, robbed the complainant using a hand gun. A cell phone and money was taken. The victim had his 3-year-old son with him. The suspects fled in a white, Ford 150 extended cab with a lumber rack.
November 20, 2008, Day Shift, 4660 Natomas Boulevard: Robbery
Officers responded to the 5 Star Cleaners. Officers worked with School Resource Officers (SROs) to identify two of the suspects who were later arrested.
